At the end of September, our branch in Woburn Sands celebrated its 10th anniversary, but it wasn’t always a funeral home. The building has a very long and interesting past.
The history of the building which now houses Neville Funerals dates back to 1867, when it was the Maypole Beerhouse – one of a number of beerhouses in the village. After passing through many licensees, it was sold in 1928 to begin life a retail unit, being home over the years to an antiques furniture business, a fabric shop, an upholstery business, a pine furniture shop, and a drum and percussion instrument specialist, which remained in business until 2012.

In 2014, the building was sold to Neville Funeral Service (as we were back then) and work began to renovate it to become our seventh funeral home in the region.
With the help of our sister construction and joinery businesses, the building underwent extensive internal and external refurbishment works, opening for business at the end of September 2014. This was marked with a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

In 2024, Neville Funerals and the Woburn Sands team remain steadfast in the community, and to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we again welcomed members of the public to the branch, once again opening up the doors to the public with a Macmillan coffee morning.

The team decorated the offices with balloons and banners, and offered face painting and colouring for the children, and with over 20 visitors popping in to see them, they managed to raise almost £300 for the charity.
