Part-Time Driver Bearers

This role is primarily involved with the care of the deceased and presentation of deceased persons, the removal of the deceased from the place of death and attendance on funerals as a driver and bearer, and care of the fleet.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To care for the deceased at all times
  • To convey the deceased from their place of death to the appropriate location (funeral home/hospital etc) and to carry this out with dignity and respect for the deceased and the deceased’s family
  • To adhere strictly to the ID process and ensure that all paperwork is completed correctly and in a timely fashion
  • To prepare the deceased for the coffin in accordance with instructions and the training given
  • To use the correct equipment for all tasks to ensure the safe removal of the deceased and to comply with any wishes of the family, hospital or nursing home staff where applicable
  • To ensure that all removal equipment is kept clean and tidy and is always available when required
  • To ensure that removal vehicle is clean and well equipped.
  • To attend the funeral dressed in the appropriate clothing provided, adhering to the uniform code
  • To pay particular attention to abide by the health and safety rules when carrying the coffin
  • To remain composed and act professionally and appropriately at all times bur, particularly, whilst on a funeral and in the public eye
  • Line and fit out coffins to the highest standard and according to instruction
  • Produce computer generated nameplates for coffins and markers
  • Maintaining all workplace environments to the highest standard – clean and tidy

General

  • To provide the highest standard of service when dealing with all tasks to ensure client satisfaction
  • Caring for and maintaining all company vehicles to the highest standard, including washing and valeting vehicles on a daily basis
  • Attend mandatory training
  • Follow written instruction
  • Check and record coffin and ancillary stock

 

Person Specification

  • To be of clean and smart appearance
  • To be punctual at all times
  • To have and retain a full UK driving licence
  • To have excellent attention to detail
  • To understand the importance of the role being performed and, specifically, that the care of the deceased is an honour
