Whilst employees come and go, for three recent returnees to Neville Funerals, coming back to the business has been a good move.
Andrew McGroarty began his career at Neville Funerals as a Driver Bearer, staying for eight years, before deciding to pursue a career outside of the funeral industry. It was only until recently that he began looking for job more local to home, when he saw that we were recruiting. Andrew quickly realised he had loved working in the funeral industry, so he decided to apply, and has since rejoined our Luton team as a part-time Driver Bearer.
Andrew said: “I am very happy to be back at Neville Funerals and am enjoying my new role. It works for me, and I’m pleased to see that whilst some things have changed, the people and the role is mostly the same.”
Those who work in the funerals industry, often say that once you work in funerals you tend to stay in funerals, and for Abbie Holley, this rings true. She originally came to Neville Funerals as a Funeral Arranger at our Luton branch, following a career with a different funeral provider, and stayed for four years, before leaving to explore a career options outside of the industry.
Abbie said: “I realised that I missed working in funerals and knew it was only a matter of time before the right opportunity came about, and I’m now back working for Neville Funerals – this time as a Funeral Arranger at in Hitchin. I was worried I wouldn’t remember the job, but within two days of being back, it was totally fine. I’ve definitely made the right decision!”
For some returnees, they left the business to widen their scope of knowledge of the industry, and for Rei Kilroy, this was gained in a crematorium. Whilst the experience was valuable, Rei always knew that she wanted to work in one of our smaller branches, and when the opportunity arose to work in the Hemel Hempstead branch, Rei jumped back into the business.
She said: “I’ve went back to my Funeral Arranger roots by applying to return to Neville Funerals after a period away. My experience at the crematorium means I have come back with a richer knowledge of the industry which I can apply in my day-to-day role. I’m loving being back in the company.”
