According to BBC Worklife, more and more people across the UK are returning to their former workplaces. For two individuals employed by the family funeral firm Neville Funerals, returning to the team has advanced their careers, allowing them to leverage experiences from elsewhere while building on their pre-existing connections.
Harry Duggan, a qualified Funeral Director and keen golfer, began his career with Neville Funerals as a work experience recruit while studying at a sixth form in Dunstable. Shortly after, he started his training with the company, which saw him complete an NVQ Level 2 in Funeral Operations and Services. Harry stayed with Neville Funerals for three years, before taking a break to pursue roles elsewhere in the industry.
Harry said: “I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to broaden my knowledge and experiences and I am really pleased to be back at Neville Funerals again. The company is known for investing in its team, training and nurturing everyone to ensure it provides a high-quality funeral service to the people of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. It’s great to be a part of the company’s family-run, professional working culture again and I’m looking forward to applying my skills acquired in other roles to this dynamic business.”
The Neville Trust Group of Companies provides several apprenticeship roles across multiple disciplines, including construction, joinery, memorial masonry, business administration and funeral arranging. Harry was one of many who benefitted from practicing his theoretical learning on the job, gaining hands-on experience in a role he was passionate about, while earning a salary.
It was Neville Funerals’ commitments to its team which first attracted Mobile Funeral Arranger and novice angler, Michelle Carlin, to the business too. Michelle, a former police officer, was new to the funeral industry and was employed as a Driver Bearer, inspired by a female employee at Neville Funerals to pursue a career which culminated in Michelle training to be a funeral arranger, initially based at the Head Office in Luton, before transferring to the Stopsley branch:
“I saw the funeral industry as a heavily male dominated sector and was inspired by the company’s strong female leaders. I believe it takes a varied, dynamic team to provide the very best care for the community, so I was keen to get stuck in.”
“After a short hiatus, it’s great to be back working for the community, maintaining a professional image with a friendly approach for the families we support. This team provides the very best service for its customers and its colleagues – something we refer to fondly as ‘The Neville’s Way’”.
Harry takes up his role as Funeral Director from the Luton branch and Michelle will work predominantly as a Funeral Arranger supporting our Stopsley, Dunstable and Hemel Hempstead offices.
